Soccer

We're trying out different activities to see which ones "stick" (and which ones we parents enjoy watching), and this weekend we tried out soccer. The Babe gave it pretty good reviews.

Nice and sweaty afterward:

We walked over to soccer with Evie and Jack, and we cooled down at their house afterward:

The Babe's New Book Light

Izzy has been reading books to Ethan at bedtime for a while now, but recently she got a new book light that has made it even more fun.

Surfer Boy (sort of) in Training

Ethan wanted us to be sure to post his paddle board video, too! He's not quite to Izzy's level yet but he's on his way!

Surfer Girl in Training

Iz is a natural on the board! Today she was practicing her balance on the paddle board. I think we have a surfer girl in the making.

The Best Way to Beat the Heat

The Babe, E-man and I decided that we needed to cool down, so we made some homemade popsicles and ice cream today. Iz and Ethan chose strawberry lemonade ice pops, and they indulged me in making one of my all-time favorites, mint chocolate chip ice cream (although it wasn't too hard to convince them!). Most of the photography is by Izzy.

We made fun ice cubes out of the leftover ice pop mixture:

Waiting patiently for the ice cream to churn:

SO worth it!

Book Worms

The Babe has been reading a lot of books in general, and especially at bed time to Ethan. This morning we found them in a little "nest" reading a very educational book. We're hoping they will impart some of their wine wisdom to us. :)

SD Tri Classic 2012

In preparation for the Super Frog Half Ironman on Sept 29th, Daddy did the SD Tri Classic (Olympic distance) this weekend. Iz, E-man and I went to cheer him on and caught him in the final part of his run. He did a great job, setting his own personal record despite feeling sick the whole week prior (thanks to the Izzy-Ethan germ factory).

Maybe this will be Ethan's pre-race routine someday:

Izzy and Ethan both wanted to practice their photography skills, so they each got a chance to take some pics at the race:

The Babe Goes Back to the Bob

After a few months of growing out her hair, Izzy decided that long hair was too sweaty and hot on her neck in this hot weather. So instead of getting a trim she chopped it back to the A-line bob that we love on her!

The Babe Goes to Kindergarten

Today was Izzy's first day of kindergarten at our neighborhood elementary school, McKinley. Hard to believe that this day came so quickly. It also happened to be a teacher in-service day at Ethan's school, so I joined the many other first-time kindergarteners' parents in the exciting, emotional, slightly anxiety-causing first day drop-off. Iz came home raving about her teacher and about recess and lunch, so it sounds like she's a pro at elementary school already!

The big girl, all ready to go:

Ethan and friend Serena got to join me in dropping Izzy off:

Izzy's good friend from St. Paul's, Evie, is also at McKinley but in a different class. They got to say hi before going to their respective rooms:

In Miss January's classroom:

Lots of parents hanging around, prolonging the goodbye:

In the meantime, Ethan, Serena and I headed to the zoo:
